Era Of Tyrelis

Description

I've created a base map from my previous project, so a lot less work has been put into this one. It's simply a different timeframe. The map is also less cluttered.

The map displays the same regions too.

edit: some lore below is incorrect nowadays. see my journal for current lore.

This map displays Runes Eris during the third era of the Green Age. Where food surplus caused massive population booms across the continent. War between political entities, vassals, and monarchs arose. The people of their respective regions are now safely settled for the years to come, however, settled on the bones of the people before them. This was especially the case in Rilia, where Hemian, Certruri, and Purtian tribes fought for supremacy over the region. The Rilian region was later united through massive attempts by the church of Alka to unite the population against the far-eastern invaders. Who wished to conquer the green and fertile fields of Runes Eris.

Three commanders were put in charge of leading the armies, none had any particular background, two of them were mercenaries. Hired by the Hightower. There wasn't a large and influential nobility in Tyrelia at the time that could lead armies. The battles themselves consisted of skirmishes in the Hannan forests, where the eastern armies would later retreat from, due to the inability to use cavalry. But by the time they retreated, their army was smashed. And after that, scattered. The western armies consisted of light infantry, armed with pikes, swords, light shields, and bowmen. There was close to no cavalry used in their army, unlike the eastern one where most of the army relied on their horses. The amount of rivers also caused a major issue for the eastern invaders, disease hit both sides but the eastern side lost most of their men to sickness. The western army actively denied the eastern warriors from getting access to drinking water, by having archers on tree branches.

The three cultures that fathered the Rilian population later came under huge pressure by the new Rilian powerhouse, and were forced to adapt to the "modern" Runic language, spoken by most Rilian nobles. A language with quirks from all corners of Runes Eris. Which also aided the Rilians on their path to becoming a major on the continent, as they had considerable cultural ties to most of Tyrelia. As seen later when queen Helena, daughter of Lasardus, became very favorable of the Riman nobles and the church, because she was pious, and supportive of the religious pressure put on the Hemians, and had almost identical cultural traditions. Most Tyrelians swore allegiance to her because of that. There was still political unrest from time to time though, between Helena and her vassals, due to various issues, such as claimants, and rebellions. A fairly large part of the Rilian nobility were not to fond of a female monarch.

When the Tyrelians defeated the far-eastern invaders, they were quick to assume complete domination over the continent, as they were the few ones not pillaged by the invaders. One of the former major monarchies, the Maelans, lost Stallions Nest to the west, several ancient kingdoms, such as the Tellanians, and the Hannians, were absorbed into the western empire as sub-states, or vassals. Those kingdoms not affected by the horde invasion, such as the Tysoulians, and the Hemians, had no other choice than to accept the Rilian monarchy and their claim to most of Tyrelia, Tellania, and Hannia. And "Allowed" the Rilians to turn the former Tellanian and Hannan lands into crown-lands.

The Rilian kingdom became a despotic monarchy with the death of the two Tyrelian commanders, and the ascension of the Belverosi man Lasardus Emporium.

Meanwhile in the Maelan kingdom, after being pillaged and losing several cities, and having huge populations scatter, it was crippled. Not only that, but Lasardus Emporium has seized the kingdoms trade outposts in Stallions Nest. Throwing the Maelans at the hands of the west for trade, loyal Tysoulian vassals would not allow trade routes through Tysoulia either, due to them being loyal to the dynastic house of Soi, who were allies of house Emporium in the west. The current house that led the Maelans were the Ironflood dynasty, under Margus Ironflood. However, Margus was young and had no experience in leading his country through such a crisis. And soon veterans of the previous war would rally around him, and influence all of his decisions. Margus was later deposed by these veterans, and they formed the Golden Council, a government consisting of former war veterans. Most of them extremely hostile to the west.

The furthermost northern kingdom of Hemia, was largely unscathed by the war, but the nobles of the country were constantly pressured by southern pilgrims. Most southern kingdoms, including the Rilians, despised the norths favorable attitude towards the first god-child Sinus, the one that many believed murdered Rune, the fourth, and youngest child of the Smith, the forger of the world.

Faith began to have a larger role in western and northern politics, but the moment the great houses of Hemia demanded immediate action from queen Helena, she responded positively in favor of the Hemians. Its unknown as to why she obeyed their demands. Perhaps due to the empires strategic decision to not reinforce garrisons in northern Rilia, and instead focus on eastern holds. And because a war so close to the capital region would cause unrest across the empire.

Thank you for your time. :)
